eek!tober 2009: living dolls
For Eek!tober, I’ve collected some random thingies of a YouTube nature that may cause thrills, terror, shivers, nightsweats, chilblains, hysteria, rickets, and/or the vapors. I’ll be presenting them throughout the week.
This episode is fairly self-explanatory. You stupid dolls, coming to life and causing mayhem. I don’t like you.
Magic. I had been pretty indifferent to ventriloquists as a youth, but just seeing this trailer handily changed things.
Talky Tina. This Twilight Zone episode caused me to sleep with the lights on for the first time ever — at 16. Here, the whole episode is condensed down to two handy minutes. Good luck, and yes, that’s Telly Savalas.
Trilogy of Terror. The one with the doll. I hadn’t seen this since this was the water cooler talk among my elementary school set. I’m supplying the link for part one — if you have the time, you may want to watch the whole thing, as the sets, costumes, Miss Karen Black, and the doll itself are delicious, non-PC, 1970s treats.
Doll commercials. Meet Crissy, Velvet and Starla. They can’t tell you how pleased they are to eat meet you.

Internet hoaxes that are so stupidly fake, but scare me a little bit anyway.
As we know, this list is much longer. The clown doll in Poltergeist. Chucky. Dolls. My best friend Francine’s stuffed Pluto dog, with his awful big white eyes.
Feel free to add your own. Hope you enjoyed your trip into the Uncanny Valley!
Oh that last one made me laugh with mirth.
I loved that episode with Karen Black and the doll (Twilight Zone I think), only the clip misses the best part. When the necklace falls off of the doll and it comes alive, then at the end she [edited out to preserve surprise factor] …… Now THAT’S creepy! [edited[ I just remember sitting on the edge of our couch being scared witless to go my bedroom where I had a number of dolls – waiting for me).
“Trilogy of Terror” was an ABC movie of the week. More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trilogy_of_Terror
I posted the part one of the episode so that people might watch the whole thing, not just the extra special awesome bits. If you want to skip to the chase, you can hit this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOEJkeLPSRQ
I left out your memory of the ending, LJ — just in case people want to be surprised. Let’s just say: you were right!
Sorry about that. I never thought about spoiler-age. Remember I warned you about me being inappropriate and to blame it on Cardio (teehee!). Thanks for the edit.
Ahhh, Talking Tina! That gave me nightmares for years…..and now they’ll be back!
