an la evening part two
The first half of the evening was relatively civilized, what with picnic and wine and a beautiful and fancy Nigerian Afro Beat show. The second half of the evening, we “stopped by” the Redwood Bar and Grill in downtown LA. You know, just to check in, breeze by. But once I got a load of the band on stage, The Vooduo (“Blood soaked tunes for the B-movie set!”), I knew were were gonna stay a while. How can you fault a fantastic female hitting the stuffing out of the drums and a guitarist/vocalist who looks like Eric Von Zipper? You may want to turn your speakers waaaay down before hitting “play”..
Here was the lineup for the night: Vooduo, The Pubes, Green Lady Killers, Seven Dirty Words. Oh how I love rock and roll. Here are the lovely Green Lady Killers, photo again stolen from the Boyf.
Thank you, Boyf, for taking care of me! Next time, though, slap about half those drinks out of my hand.
Things got a little hazy at this point of the night. I remember buying a fake mustache from the Pubes’ merchandise table. I wore it and yelled “woo” a lot (or at least I thought it), before I felt like the adhesive on my upper lip was going to kill me. During the Green Lady Killers, I told the man I had to sit down, right now. I found a spot at the bar and talked myself into believing I could handle another beer. Good lord.
This is my last update of the evening posted to my Facebook wall (before the pouring of the Becky into the van, the fitful sleeping up the coast, and the late night Pointless Drunken Weepiness):
Good old fashioned mutant rock n roll! Im wearing a mushtachw!!!
I like that word adhesive…
