pysanky panky part two
I wrote a little piece a few years ago (before it was called a blog) about Ukrainian egg-dyeing (Pysanky) right here. Many thanks to my fantastic cousin for teaching me how to do this fun craft.
This past weekend I got to rock the Pysanky again at an Egg-stravaganza party hosted by Lisa — who, up until Sunday, was an internet-only (aka imaginary) friend! I can vouch now that she is real. And AWESOME!
We met online 5 or 6 years ago on craftster.org, when we both were quilting a lot. Then we started reading each others’ blogs. Then we started down the Facebook path. Lisa is a renaissance woman who is crafty on so many different levels. Pysanky? Check. Yarn spinning? Check. Beekeeping? Mais oui. Theatre set painting? Of course. Home reno? Yup. Cat juggling? Yes!*
So Molly and I headed to the East Bay to get our hands full of egg.
Pysanky uses a wax-resist method to layer the dye colors on the egg.
And on my hand.
You have to kind of hold the hollowed egg under the dye, drowning-style. Shhh, it will be over in a minute. Shhhhh.
Lisa calls these my “anarchy eggs.”
Oh my god, we’re both real! Two crazy craft dynasties have become one! Thanks for the great party, Lisa.
*ok maybe not cat juggling, but cat tending? absolutely!
Time for a meeting of the non-profit! For sure!
