day 26: feeds food for the shoppers

thanks to flickr's xandroid for the use of this photo A blog post about blogs. Sigh. Perhaps I’ll have something of real merit to write about after I’ve recovered from my San Francisco trip. But this kind of works, yes, since it’s holiday shopping time for some of you more monied folks? If I get another adorably miffed comment from Dagda out of this list of tempting shopping morsels, my work will be done.

The Awesome! Blog is exactly that. Written by a crack team of sassy gals, it directs you to really good goods. Sample paragraph:

I bought a version of these Berne Mev shoes two falls ago … They’re pretty great for skipping through a pile of leaves or even running after a gaggle of cute boys on bikes with messengers bags and blazers and cool scarves and hip glasses. Sadly, they don’t have the power to make said boys exactly straight, but hey, they’re shoes, you know? Not magicians.

I love Kevin Kelly’s Cool Tools site.. I might love Kevin Kelly a little bit, too. Thoughtfully written reviews of gadgets, books, stuff — everything you didn’t realize you really need till now.

Mighty Goods! Holy shit, this writer girl Maggie can do anything. I can feel my soon-to-be-deactivated credit cards throbbing for action in my wallet. Oh — she likes the Fred Flare Graphic Travel Clutch, too!

Design*Sponge — musings of a design junky.. this new golden age of product design is almost, almost too much. There is such an abundance of eye candy and incredible innovation and colors and everything, I almost feel ill. Almost! Grace B finds it all and dumps it in one adorable glob. I meant to write blog! Haha!

Tag Sale Tales isn’t exactly a shopping guide, but it is musings and stories about peoples’ experiences with thrifting, garage sale-ing and the like. Oh, so good. Makes me yearn hard for the halcyon Ventura days when the thrifting absolutely could not be better. Right this moment, the weather is just perfect for me to be sporting my beautiful brown suede swing coat, scored from Retarded Children’s about 15 years ago: three freaking dollars, no lie.

By the way, I use Bloglines to dump all the sites and blogs I read in one handy dandy web-accessible viewer. I am not a shill, though I sure do sound like one.

Petra, Janne, Tova and baby Nils (the Moths) thank you for emptying my wallet of all its other inhabitants. Those bills and credit cards were cramping their style.

Hi Becky! I’m sorry I’ve not commented much on your amazing travel through – soon to be(!!!) 30 days of blogging, but I’ve been reading and enjoying your flowing pen! I have a worry – that this has been so exhausting for you that you won’t be blogging anymore for weeks! I’ve kind of gotten into the routine of having a little sit-down and a giggle reading through your blog everyday – so please continue :-))

But the last 2 days haven’t been fair!!! Are you aware that U.S. shops don’t ship overseas??? So what am I to do with my “oh-ah-uh-must-have”-cravings that I’ve gotten by clicking in to all the cool stores and products? Hm? What, I question you!!!? With my budget, I’ve become very good at window shopping. I find a really cool thingy and satisfy my “I-want-that’s” by saying to myself: “Good thing I found that very cool object, because now I know where I can get it when I get the money!” Strange thing is – it kind of works! Even though I never get that money ever, ha ha! But with your blog entries now, I can only say: “Good thing I found that very cool object, because now I know where I CAN’T get it when I get the money!” ….. You see the difference? Sounds stupid and doesn’t help much, does it??? Hee hee 😉
