day 14: i’m not the only multi-personality who does it
Evany just posted about the the Three Evanys, where she divides her selves into Past, Present and Future Evany.
For anyone that has known me and my babble for long enough, you’ll know I often employ this method, too. As in “the tomorrow-me is going to be really happy with the now-me for doing the dishes.” Or, “why the hell was 1994 Becky issued a credit card? 2006 Becky is ska-rooed.”
I’m experiencing some relief that someone as cool as Evany does this too. Now I don’t feel sick at all!
I do have a fascination with the idea of messages from the past and future. I peppered my teenage journals with questionnaires for the future Becky. For example [from 1978]:
FILL THIS OUT WHEN YOU ARE TWENTY!
Question one: Are you happy?
[it goes on, sickeningly, from there]
I’m glad email didn’t exist then; otherwise, I’d probably be receiving daily missives from futureme, where you can write emails to be sent at a later date — any later date. Oh, 1970s Becky was so confused.
I don’t admit to reading science fiction, but I dug Pastwatch: The Redemption of Christopher Columbus by Orson Scott Card. It’s one of the best time travel-themed books I’ve been able to wrap my mind around, and the story revolves around planted messages from the future. Read it!
Do you remember the Eight is Enough where the first mom had already died, and it was Christmas, and all the presents got stolen, but then they found the present for Nicholas from the dead mom? Oh, man.
I would so kick my younger self’s ass if I could…but that greasy little fucker would be too damn quick for me…Although he might be stunned and appaled by my appearance and weight long enough for me to wring his spotty little neck.
