appropriating my personal culture

This quiz gave me brief yearny feelings for the weirdo decade in which I grew up. I am a hard-wired ephemera-lover, and the 70s was chock full of stuff that delights my eyes even now. Not to mention living in a brown and orange universe of progressive teaching techniques [hello, Free to Be You and Me and Electric Company], books, toys and games, obsessions. I love the things that surrounded me in my youth. Without 20/20 hindsight or irony. Mine. It’s mine!

But how ’bout the flipside? Like, the people taking shit from “my” time and mucking it all up? You know what I mean, no links needed. This quote illustrates the feelings in my black heart:

Everything you love, everything meaningful with depth and history, all passionate authentic experiences will be appropriated, mishandled, watered down, cheapened, repackaged, marketed and sold to the people you hate.
