archive 1999: breakup

  • Backstory: I was engaged for a few months in 1998-1999 while I lived in Ventura. We broke up very suddenly a few months before the wedding.

BREAKUP: Here’s the 411 on the very sad state of affairs. A. and I have parted ways. It happened (obviously) very suddenly; A. has some difficulties that were unacknowledged until recently. He is on a very positive road to recovery now, but we both have realized we can’t stay together.

SO FAR, things are amicable. We have just finished packing our place (my stuff is moved as of 3/24/99) and working out custody of the jointly-owned kids: Our wall unit named Ivar, the wedding/engagement rings, a painting by Richard Wilder, and the plants. I got everything but the painting.

  • Backstory: then it got unamicable. Over money, of course. Then it got a little more amicable. But (as of August 15, 2006) I have not seen him again nor have heard news of him in seven years.

WHAT WILL HAMBOX DO? At this moment, I am living back at the beach house (email me for address and phone #). I am hoping to find a place in Santa Barbara soon, but alot is hinging on my finding a more profitable job and an affordable place to live. I would like to stay in Santa Barbara for awhile, as I have just been asked to become a founding member of an SB long-format improvisation group, I am making some friends, and well, I’d just like to give SB a shot, you know? BUT who knows. If the job thing doesn’t come through, all bets are off and I might just hightail it north.

  • Backstory: which is exactly what I did.

THE BRIGHT SIDE: It could have been so much worse. So, so much worse. Do you remember the original wedding date was 3/13/99? Oy, that would’ve been bad! Or could you imagine the shit hitting the fan a month AFTER the wedding? I mean, yes, the splitting the household is a pain in the ass, but my god!

FINAL WORD: I am sad but not desolate. A. and I had a wonderful relationship, and his demons got in the way. I love him and he loves me and I am grateful for having had this time with him. And now I’m happy to be free again to do my own thing and make my life even better.

****END OF SAD THING. ONTO HAPPIER THING.*****

Apology Corner

I am going to go easy on myself this time around. Besides, I only got one apology request, this one for S. McG., who would like me to apologize for the fact that she got sick last year…it was something pretty serious..was it around holiday time? My details are kloogy, as I have not actually seen her since 1996. But S., I will never, ever do it again, I promise. All better!
