a [n inevitable?] mac post
I am a master procrastinator and kind of a career poor person, but one thing I invest in on a regular basis is a computer. I can’t not, as I have always freelanced and planned obsolescence makes me feel as though I’m trying to compute with a potato — an agonizingly slow potato — after about 3 years with my rig-of-the-moment.
I’m a Mac person, always have been — dad was a gadget freak and hauled home the Apple II the minute it was available. I will relate at another time some of the early forays into gaming that will amuse you and date me in painful measure.
There was a moment that I thought my new computer was going to be Windows-based, after admiring the speed of the Dell I use at work. But, like a remorseful cheating spouse, I realized where my true heart was and crawled right home, right into the wee little arms of the Mini.
I’m still setting it up, transferring files from my adorably tiny and still-viable 12″ Powerbook G4 laptop. But the Mini seems blazingly fast so far, and my gigantor monitor is making me feel quite queenly indeed.
If I were a true Macultist I would have used “sexy” in this post somewhere. I like good industrial design, but look at that tangle of cords in the picture. Until that shit can be made sexy? It’s business as usual.
Aw, yeah, the Apple II. Did you ever play Raster Blaster?
Congrats on your new gadget! Is “gadget” the right word? No. It is not. I’m sorry.
