fair update and scavenger madness
If you’ve not been Facebooked nor Twittered to death about it (by me), I’ll tell you now: the Science Quilt did not win a prize in the Ventura County Fair. Instead, I got an “everyone gets one” Honorable Mention sticker.
inadequately displayed. on the bright side, it was two quilts over from a NASCAR quilt!
The other quilt I entered also got a “sorry, sucker” sticker.
I did get second place for my scarf!
i can only hope there were more than two entries in this category.
But I did win something grand and totally unexpected at Opening Day of the Fair:
the turkey calling contest!
I am forever grateful to my brother for teaching me the turkey call. It’s one of the best things I do.
HERE’S A CONTEST FOR YOU VENTURA PEOPLE WHO ARE GOING TO THE FAIR
First three people to take a picture of themselves in front of one of the things I entered into the VC Fair gets a DEEP DISCOUNT on selected items the fabulous Etsy shop that I have with my friend Turquoise called MockOrange. The three items I entered are in the Home Arts building: there’s a scarf and two quilts. I’m being a little coy about showing an image of the second quilt here, but you’d be able to see it on my flickr photostream.
When I say deep discount I mean crazy deep discount. And by selected items I mean scarves, the Gocco cards, the blue pincushion and other things. Oh, and robot potholders. That’s right.
Turkey calling, eh? I had no idea one could call a turkey. Or that turkeys could emit a noise. Aren’t they like rabbits — silent in solitude? I guess not.
How long is the fair going on? Cuz it’s almost worth the plane fair just to try and win the robot potholder. Oh, and hear your turkey call in person. Does it work on toddlers? Similar to turkeys in too many ways.
