halloween, no nablo
Halloween pictures are up in this photoset. I was a member of a Mob of Angry Villagers. You can see us chase a vampire and a couple of witches (who fought back with a gun) and many, many silly (some might say stupid) shots. That’s Todd, me, Talia and Kyle, out for some vigilante justice:
This was, by far, the funnest costume I have inhabited in decades. My friends and I decided a year ago to do this (thanks to this inspiration), so the anticipation was great. The payoff was greater. It doesn’t hurt to rove with a pack of extroverted hams — we made a lap around downtown Ventura, shrieking at every monster, ghoul and witch on the street (“Burn them!”)
And, we thought up a genius group costume idea for 2010, too!
But next, I rest.
It was not a hard decision, honestly, not to do NaBloPoMo this year (the experiment in which bloggers post every day in November). I put in three years of it, and it was a very good experience. I proved to myself I could write regularly — even if it was copying and pasting old, tired memes just to get something up there. I recommend the experience for anyone who wants to get their butts in gear and to really explore if they like, or even love, to write.
Here’s why I’m not going to write every day in November:
- I do love to write — but in a quality-over-quantity kind of way
- I need to get some non-essential items off my to-do list during this busy time
- The holidays are hard for me and I don’t need anything to make it worse (and NaBlo can sometimes make it worse)
- I already won a great prize through Nablopomo, which keeps on giving and giving
- For the first half of November, I need to craft till my hands fall off, in preparation for an upcoming boutique in which I’m participating (details coming soon)
- My dog ate my WordPress
PS, October was frickin’ excellent.
Peasants with Torches!
Excellent!!!!
Found you through the NaBloPoMo Randomizer. Sorry you won’t be participating this year (this is my third or fourth year – can’t recall & too lazy to bother looking).
I love, love, love your Angry Villagers costume. You guys all look great. Brilliant idea. Brilliantly executed.
I am a major introvert, but I want to be friends with you and your mob friends.
If I had that mob backing me up I would have been drunk with confidence on Halloween and I would have run down those witches with guns, complete with a slo-mo leap to catch one of the witches around the knees to take her down.
Down to the ground.
You had way too much fun on Halloween!!
Love your costumes. High concept really. By the way, what is your torch. It looks like a giant candle from a craft fair.
The torch is a dowel with cotton batting twirled around it and painted by set designer Todd.
I totally see the craft fair candle now! Ha! Thanks for everyone’s notes. I wish I could travel in a mob like this more than once a year.
