make your own damn circle scarf
There’s a giveaway in this here post. Read on how to get your own damn circle scarf. From me!
So, you’ve seen them. Big loopy scarves worn by fashionable and waify young women, usually combined with skinny jeans, mid-calf boots and a latte to go.
I like scarves but did not pay attention to this particular kind of scarf (and its apparent magical properties) until lifestyle blogging lady Mighty Girl raved, raved, RAVED about them:
…you must own one of these American Apparel circle scarves. I never take mine off, and there’s so many ways to wear it, I give a full-on infomercial to anyone who will listen.
I was intrigued. It’s a scarf, a sarong, a dress, a blankie, all in one? Okay.
But? The circle scarf by American Apparel is almost 30 bucks. OH PLEASE.
Here’s how you make Your Own Damn Circle Scarf:
- Buy one yard of double knit or jersey.
- Sew the ends together to make a circle.
- Wear.
And I have to say: awesome. I rock the double loop, generally, as it is cold out and I am persnickity about keeping my neck warm. I have also used it as a shawl, a pillow, and a garrotte. I made one in neutral tannish stripes (seen in these pics), and one in candy cane colors for the holidays. I wore that particular one to a Mexican folklorica store in San Francisco recently. The store owner admired it, and I told her how one makes One’s Own Damn Circle Scarf. She got excited and told me she would have her sister make them for the store. I made her promise she would sell them for less then thirty dollars.
My friends Bella, Turquoise, and Bev kindly chronicled some other, non-American-Apparel-approved ways to rock Your Own Damn Circle Scarf:

Are you with me so far? Now it’s time for the “Down with Seasonal Sadness Slump Fantastic Craftico Giveaway #1”: Get your Own Damn Circle Scarf!
You can win a scarf just like the one pictured. I whip-stitched it in a hasty and somewhat sloppy manner, but it does the trick. It’s a circle of fabric, fer pity’s sake. If you give it as a gift you can say it was made by an outsider artist. For that is what I am.
Here’s how to win!
- Go to my blog archives, scroll around, and find a likely-looking post that you have not read nor commented upon before.
- Write a comment, including something proving that you actually read the post upon which you are commenting.
- You are welcome to comment here, but you have to comment on a different post to enter the contest.
That’s it. I’ll randomly select and announce the winner on Friday. I’ll stick the scarf in the mail on Saturday to the address of your choice. You have a very good chance of winning.
Update: Game over. We are finito. Check out this post to see who got a cloth, sloppily sewn into a vaguely circular shape.
I’m so glad you used the pictures to enhance the beauty and functionality of the circle scarf! xoxo
Hahaha, oh my gosh, these pictures are amazing! It’s so true, AA makes so many ridiculous claims about how you can wear their items.
