the yearly dumb-down
As I have mentioned before in this here blog, I like to listen to IQ-lowering radio stations during the summertime. Last year, it was the nutty R&B station; previous years, it’s been heavy metal or standard-issue American Rawk.
Now that it’s unofficially summer, I have cranked up “The Rewind”, a local station bringing me the hits of the 70s and 80s. If I thought last summer’s station was a crazy melange of music, barely united by the “R&B” genre, this is even crazier. There is very little that unites the 1970s and 1980s musically, but The Rewind don’t care! Here is the list of the “Top Artists” on their website:
- Fleetwood Mac
- Prince
- Pat Benatar
- Eagles
- Cyndi Lauper
- Earth Wind & Fire
- Madonna
- Steve Miller Band
- Go-Gos
- Van Halen
“My Best Friend’s Girlfriend” to “You Give Love a Bad Name” to “I Want to Kiss You All Over.” It makes me feel crazy (delightfully crazy? maybe?) but I do have to lunge at the OFF button, a lot. I maintain an Eagles- and Fleetwood Mac-free household, for starters.
That is a wide range of awesome. Rawk on!
