wannabe

Photo of and uploaded by Elyse Sewell. Thanks for letting me use it!

I’m generally quite content with the places I’ve gone and the things I’ve accomplished. And the people I’ve done. You know what I mean. I generally don’t yearn to go back in time, or ask for a do-over, or burn with envy at all the Young Things doing awesome things.

However. I do have a wish to be, briefly, in the shoes of these fine ladies:

Elyse Sewell. You might remember her from the first season of America’s Next Top Model, the sassy med student one who was a little to haute in look and brain to fit in with the vapid fashion world. However, she did launch a modeling career on her own terms, based out of Hong Kong, and has kept a most entertaining blog the entire time. Witness:

…“Going outside” is a feeble description of stepping out into the madness of Causeway Bay [Hong Kong]. All of this, combined with the ambient humidity and heat, contributes to the overall feeling of living inside a giant mechanical hive. I love every minute of it.

and:

I realized that shopping in a new 7-11 is always the most delightful part of traveling to a new country. New theme park idea: 7-11sneyland. Who among us would not buy an admission ticket to visit an incredible street lined with a 7-11 from every country? Weird soda flavor heaven!

Living an eastern, candy-colored dream. With a Shin boyfriend, to boot. Sigh.

Any girl featured in the fashionist blog. Wouldn’t it nice to feel all hot and chic and be strutting down the street when an equally hot and chic lady stops you to ask you the secret of your incredible fabulousness? Then posts pics of your hot self on the internet? There are plenty of street-fashion blogs, but this one is special to me, as it’s Bay Area-based.

Groovy Dancing Girl. I just like her moves and her look. Effortless cool.

thanks for the kudos and the compliment! “when an equally hot and chic lady stops you” (- ha! -) and for a weird bit of sf-style synchronicity, i used to work at naata (now caam) which is located in the same building as faf. perhaps our paths have crossed before. 🙂
