and i talked
Lyn, Cynthia, and yours truly, in an orange-flesh hue (?)
So I had a pretty good time talking about online dating on the radio. I don’t think I sound too much like a freak (I toned the freak component waaaay down – this is a pretty conservative county after all,) and I got most of my points across. I hope to come back to talk about online etiquette and about how everyone needs to work on making their dating profiles better, and to stop being so damn scared of the internet in general.
Lyn and Cyn are pretty awesome and I thought they did a great job on their very first day of this show.
They kindly gave me the audio file, which I’ve edited to include only my interview (ego-driven actor!) You can listen here. It’s 16 minutes long. Listen to that California accent! And I talk about “my readers” (this means you — I guess that’s kind of a shout out. Shout out to you!)
After you hear it, you’ll appreciate my friend Travis’s text to me after the show aired:
Taco Bell? Really?
Sadly, yes, Travis.
Yay! This was fantastic on many levels, first & foremost because I love listening to you talk about anything! It also reminds me that the rest of the world is just a tad bit more conservative than me (and I’m not referring to you!). Go Miss Becky! This inspires me to get my podcast radio show up & running!
Listened on my lunch hour today. You were fabulous! Nicely done my friend!
(PS: beer much better than vomit)
This show reminded me of the tone and style of Delicious Dish from SNL. The introduction of you seemed like you were some exotic specimen they now have in captivity.
I had no idea that straight guys put shirtless shots on profiles….lol.
I liked hearing your comments….seemed like a fun experience.
Tristy: Thanks! A guy (actually a guy from OKCupid) said that I’m a backwards missionary — spreading freedom and alternative lifestyle in a conservative land.
Carol: Amen.
Jeffy: I *did* feel a little like an exotic specimen – -can you hear me edit myself??
Yes, sigh, the shirtless thing. It’s not ubiquitous, but it’s there. I don’t know what Lyn and Cyn were going on about with the men using old or fake photos — I guess the nerds that I go for are more honest!
Well, some of the things that you mentioned as anomalies in the straight online world are actually the unofficial standards in the gay world of guys….IE – Shirtless and old or fake or retouched photos. It probably says more about me and the sites I visit though… he he…
When you wrote your intro bio, please tell me that you described yourself as “incredibly talented.” Loved the interview.
I could have sworn you were talking about me all through the interview. It’s like we relived our relationship thru the radio. It was magical.
Also, can you have my restraining order lifted? I’m so much better now and really want one of your finger nails as a keepsake.
I loved it. I thought you sounded great and were well-spoken and funny and very poised. And I NEVER use the word “poised” so consider yourself special. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to take some photos for my online profile, and I need both hands free to remove my shirt…
You sounded great — smart and together. I would date you (but I don’t think my boyfriend would appreciate it!).
I loved the interview. The way you say “San Francisco” is the epitome of California dialect. I wish I had had a modicum of on-line success. And regarding the above comments: maybe the shirtless straight guys are a little unsure as to what they really want?
I loved this! So fun to listen to you & you had such good advice. I am going to forward this to my Internet dating girlfriends for inspiration. Worst date best date was a perfect finale.
Becky! Loved your interview — you did great! I don’t know if you know this, but I met my husband online 11 years ago! http://www.matchmaker.com (a paid website) Online dating is a lot of fun I think! Met some nice people, and twice as many losers! LOL
Thanks everyone, for your wonderful comments! Nice to know I can even tempt you to the other team, Scott!
