purge-a-tory: all the rest
First I got rid of my music. But nothing of the vinyls or CDs were jettisoned that I didn’t have digitized and backed up. I’m no masochist, I’m just out of space.
But now I was faced with the aftermath of purging — a big pile of stuff from shoes to crafts to electronics to hell to back. I encouraged visiting friends to scale the mountain, but it was an overwhelming climb. Every day that Mount Crappile lived in my home, I felt like I was losing my nerve to give it all away.
But then I got an email: “Ventura’s Biggest Garage Sale — Need Donations.” One phone call later and a chirpy lady from Ventura Citizens Organized for Responsible Development appeared at my door, and we filled up every inch of her minivan with the Mountain.
She told me I gave the single largest donation ever. Cringe!
I stayed strong and did not attended the special donor’s pre-sale. I stayed strong and did not buy my shirt that appeared at the Salvation Army last week. I’m staying strong and leaving stores empty-handed, more often than not.
All this enabled me to make the mental, physical and financial space to improve my surroundings. Pulled some artwork out of storage, had it framed. Bought a bedroom set from craigslist, paid some sweaty young men to move it home.
I suppose part of the nesting comes from the fact I spend so much time at home lately — working, trying to not spend money. Also, I need a home. I also would love to share my home someday, so perhaps I’m prettying everything up to give the proper signs to the universe that I am Ready. Ready! More than ready!
And so it goes. I still have a lot, lot, lot of stuff, more than one citizen of earth should probably have, but to me it’s starting to look just about right.
The video was taken on giveaway day, and only depicts a portion of the goods. Note the background song. If you can’t see it, use this direct link.

You are my hero!
I hope we get to see pictures of the prettied-up. I’m especially interested in the bedroom set you bought!
